Course Outline

History isn’t just reciting lists of dates or knowing when the Battle of Hastings took place. It’s about understanding why those events mattered in both national and global contexts. 

As part of the the Edexcel GCSE (9-1) History course, you will study a range of events in British and world history; events which have shaped the world we live in today. The following topics will be covered in the course: 

  • Early Elizabethan England 1558-88  
  • Crime and punishment through me 1000 to present  
  • Cold War 1941-1991  
  • Weimar and Nazi Germany 1918-39

A typical lesson might involve...

  • Study a range of different time periods
  • Analyse and debate the causes and consequences of historical events
  • Evaluate sources to make sustained judgements
  • Investigate and evaluate a range of interpretations to develop your arguments and judgements 
  • Opportunities for class discussion and regular opportunities to work collaboratively and independently

How will I be assessed?

The course is divided into three units.

  • Paper 1: Crime and Punishment in Britain (including Whitechapel: Crime, Policing and the Inner City) - 30% of final grade (1hr 15 minutes examination)
  • Paper 2: Elizabethan England and Superpower Relations 1941-1991 (the Cold War) - 40% of final grade (1hr 45 minutes examination)
  • Paper 3: Weimar and Nazi Germany - 30% of final grade (1hr 15 minutes examination)
