What is Schools of Sanctuary?

A School of Sanctuary is dedicated to providing a secure and inviting environment for individuals in search of refuge. It provides a refuge for individuals whose lives were threatened in their home country, those facing challenges at home, or anyone simply seeking a secure environment.

Who is a refugee?

Ayslum seekers are people who come to the UK because they are unsafe in their home country. 

Refugees are people who have had their asylum claims accepted by the UK government. They have the right to stay in the UK indefinitely. 

Benefits to migration

• It helps to improve social life of people as they learn new culture, and languages. 
• Migration of skilled workers leads to a greater economic growth of the region. 
• Children get better opportunities for higher education.

How can students support newcomers?

• Say hello - A friendly smile can have a significant impact. Invite newcomers to sit beside you. 
• Inquire about the background of a new student, but be mindful that they may not wish to discuss any distressing experience. 
• Take an interest in their home country, learning about its culture and cuisine. 
• Engage in inclusive activities, such as playing games together, even if the other person doesn't speak English. 
• If someone is not proficient in English, consider suggesting studying together for homework (without doing it for them).
• Report instances of bullying or express concerns to a teacher if you believe someone is struggling to adjust.
