Duke of Edinburgh Award

At Harper Green School, we are proud to offer students the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh's (DofE) Award – one of the UK's most respected youth achievement programmes.
The DofE Award helps students develop confidence, resilience, independence and leadership through a range of rewarding experiences. Along the way, they build valuable life skills, make new friendships and create lasting memories.
With the support of our experienced staff, students can complete the Bronze Award in Year 9, with the opportunity to progress to the Silver Award in Year 10. Students wishing to continue beyond school can work towards the Gold Award from the age of 16.
We believe the Duke of Edinburgh's Award plays an important role in helping our students become well-rounded, confident and capable young people, ready for the next stage of their education and future careers.

What Does the Award Involve?
To achieve their Award, students complete four sections:
- Volunteering – Giving time to support their local community or a charitable organisation.
- Physical – Improving in a sport, fitness activity or physical challenge.
- Skills – Developing a personal interest or learning a new skill.
- Expedition – Planning, training for and completing a team expedition.
Students completing the Gold Award also undertake a Residential section.
The award is open to all young people and is based on personal challenge and achievement. Students progress at their own pace, setting goals that suit their interests and abilities.
